Introduction

This section reviews the calamities, illness of all sorts, plagues to humans listed in the Centuries. The criteria for regrouping the quatrains are based on some identified keywords.

Afflictions to mankind

Illnesses have had a tremendous impact on Nostradamus since his wife and children died of the plague.

A6700  Illness of women
Death, illness to young women, colds
From had to eyes, hail merchants of the earth,
From sea ?, badly hemmed, wine in fog,
Oil bow, too much rain, the war destroys the crops.

The Bible also refers to women at great pain as they breastfeed: Mark, Matthew and Luke - This quatrain undeniably refers to the Biblical prophecy.

La Bible tout comme Nostradamus se réfère à des femmes enceintes. Marc, Luc et Mathieu. Ce quatrain se réfère donc forcément aux prophéties bibliques.



A6607  Illness of women
Through pestilence and fire fruits of trees will perish,

Offense, Barbarian marines, and dangers at the frontiers.

For the two very Great Ones pernicious loss to arise,
The Greatest Ones will cause loss, goods, of honor, and of life,

4.7  Illness of women
"The minor son of the great and hated Prince,"
He will have a great touch of leprosy at the age of twenty:

And he will die where the loose flesh falls.

5.63  Illness of women

"Not far from the Tiber the land stained with blood,"
And diverse plagues will be upon mankind.

5.97  Born with an infirmity
"The one born deformed suffocated in horror,"
In the habitable city of the great King:
"The severe edict of the captives revoked,"
"Hail and thunder, Condom inestimable."

1.58  Two heads and 4 arms
Through a slit in the belly a creature will be born with two heads
and four arms: it will survive for some few years.
The day that Alquiloie celebrates his festivals
"Fossana, Turin and the ruler of Ferrara will follow."

2.58  No feet nor hands
With neither foot nor hand because of sharp and strong tooth
Through the crowd to the fort of the pork and the elder born:
"Near the portal treacherous proceeds,"
"Moon shining, little great one led off."

Scare, Terror, panics

Most of the terror of the Centuries have to do with wars.

A6706  Scare, treasure, social disorder/ unrest, finding of a treasure
Through the treasure found the father's inheritance,
The Kings and Magistrates, marriage, enemies,
The public feeling bad - demanding, the judges and Mayor:
Death, fear and scare, & three Greats put to death.

An inheritance could be the one of the comte de Paris (French pretendant to the royal crown).

9.50  Barbarian scarce, Norlaris
"Mendosus will soon come to his high realm,"
Putting behind a little the Lorrainers:
"The pale red one, the male in the interregnum,"
The fearful youth and Barbaric terror.

10.72  Terrifying king
"The year 1999, seventh month,"
From the sky will come a great King of Terror:
"To bring back to life the great King of the Mongols,"
Before and after Mars to reign by good luck.

1.94  Selin's Terror, Lady, Selin
The tyrant Selim will be put to death at the harbor
"but Liberty will not be regained, however."
A new war arises from vengeance and remorse.
A lady is honored through force of terror.

A5507  Scarce / Terror of the pope and the West because of the Selin
Eight, fifteen, and five what disloyalty
The evil spy will come to be permitted:
Fire in the sky, lightning, fear, Papal terror,
The west trembles, pressing too hard the Salty wine.

3.88  Scarce / Terror in Marseille, isles (islands)
"From Barcelona a very great army by sea,"
All Marseilles will tremble with terror:
"Isles seized help shut off by sea,"
Your traitor will swim on land.

8.80  Scarce / Terror, red
"The blood of innocents, widow and virgin,"
"so many evils committed by means of the Great Red One,"
"holy images placed over burning candles,"
"terrified by fear, none will be seen to move."

A6701  Scarce / Terror, poison catares
Prisons, secretly problems, dispute among relatives,
Life will be given, through various ills Catarrhs,
Death will follow, poison will get them to agree,
Fear, scare, great fear, to travel and leave the fields.

A5807  Scarce / Terror, exiled
War, thunder, forces fields, depopulated,
Terror and noise, assault on the frontier:
Great Great One fallen, pardon for the exiles,
Germans, Spaniards, by the sea the Barbarian banner.

2.30  Scarce / Terror of humans because of Annibal
One who the infernal gods of Hannibal
"Will cause to be reborn, terror of mankind"
Never more horror nor worse of days
In the past than will come to the Romans through Babel.

5.22  Terror of the foreign army, downfall of Rome
"Before the great one has given up the ghost at Rome,"
Great terror for the foreign army:
"The ambush by squadrons near Parma,"
Then the two red ones will celebrate together.

5.23  Terror of the African Great
"The two contented ones will be united together,"
When for the most part they will be conjoined with Mars:
"The great one of Africa trembles in terror,"
Duumvirate disjoined by the fleet.

5.65  Terror, lady
"Come suddenly the terror will be great,"
Hidden by the principal ones of the affair:
"And the lady on the charcoal will no longer be in sight,"
Thus little by little will the great ones be angered.

6.21  Terror, Orient
"When those of the arctic pole are united together,"
Great terror and fear in the East:
"Newly elected, the great trembling supported,"
"Rhodes, Byzantium stained with Barbarian blood."

6.56  Terror of the Hesperians
The dreaded army of the Narbonne enemy
Will frighten very greatly the Hesperians:
"Perpignan empty through the blind one of Arbon,"
Then Barcelona by sea will take up the quarrel.

6.81  Terror near the Leman islands
"Tears, cries and laments, howls, terror,"
"Heart inhuman, cruel, black and chilly:"
"Lake of Geneva the Isles, of Genoa the notables,"
"Blood to pour out, wheat famine to none mercy."

1.75  Terror
"The tyrant of Siena will occupy Savona,"
having won the fort he will restrain the marine fleet.
Two armies under the standard of Ancona:
the leader will examine them in fear.

A5502  Terror near the Leman islands
Near Geneva terror will be great,
Through the counsel, that cannot fail:
The new King has his league prepare,
The young one dies, famine, fear will cause failure.

5.42  Terror
Mars raised to his highest belfry
Will cause the Savoyards to withdraw from France:
The Lombard people will cause very great terror
To those of the Eagle included under the Balance.

1.33  Terror
Near a great bridge near a spacious plain
the great lion with the Imperial forces
will cause a falling outside the austere city.
Through fear the gates will be unlocked for him.

3.1  Terror
"After combat and naval battle,"
The great Neptune in his highest belfry:
"Red adversary will become pale with fear,"

H071  Scarce / Terror of the orientals because of the Aquilonians
Then the Lords of "Aquilon" [the North], two in number, will be victorious over the Easterners, and so great a noise and bellicose tumult will they make amongst them that all the East will tremble in terror of these brothers, yet not brothers, of "Aquilon" [the North].
