New, great, obese … is the way Nostradamus refers to some mysterious cities. These are most probably cities of the future that had no names in the 16th Century. They could be identified with the hints he gives. In one case, he gives the precise latitude - and this corresponds to New York, precisely. Some contend it is Geneva, but Geneva is at 46° and not 45.5. The criteria for regrouping the quatrains are based on some identified keywords.
New (NY?) City
10.49 New City
"Garden of the world near the new city,"
In the path of the hollow mountains:
"It will be seized and plunged into the Tub,"
Forced to drink waters poisoned by sulfur.
1.24 New City
At the New City he is thoughtful to condemn;
the bird of prey offers himself to the Gods.
After victory he pardons his captives.
At Cremona and Mantua great hardships will be suffered.
9.92 New City
"The King will want to enter the new city,"
Through its enemies they will come to subdue it:
"Captive free falsely to speak and act,"
"King to be outside, he will keep far from the enemy."
A5809 Camp New City
Discovered fact, prince captive, pass the sea
Peace not peace, broken treaty, not married
Camp of the new city, lady, to fortify
The arrow hard piece will run to the heart
[The point and horn will run to the forage]
6.97 Great New City
"At forty-five degrees the sky will burn,"
Fire to approach the great new city:
"In an instant a great scattered flame will leap up,"
When one will want to demand proof of the Normans.
1.87 Shaking and volcanic phenomena.
Earthshaking fire from the center of the earth
will cause tremors around the New City.
"Two great rocks will war for a long time,"
then Arethusa will redden a new river.

Not necessarily the New City since the word used is "neusue" instead of neuve - although it means the same.
Posted by: YahnAmar
Le terme "neusue" signifiant la même chose que "neuve", il doit s'agir de la cité neuve.
2.53 The Great lady
The great plague of the maritime city
Will not cease until there be avenged the death
"Of the just blood, condemned for a price without crime,"
Of the great lady outraged by pretense.

Maybe New York.

Peut-être New York.

Surrounded by a crystalline swamp:

Potentially New York.

New York potentiellement aussi !
6.98 Great City Stained (see note below), temple, River - link with Great New City in VI-97
"Ruin for the Volcae so very terrible with fear,"
"Their great city stained, pestilential deed:"
To plunder Sun and Moon and to violate their temples:
And to redden the two rivers flowing with blood.
Posted by: John
Important note: Stained In the old French text is "taincte". Meanwhile one refers to the light being turned out as being "étaincte"; And this is the negation of "taincte". Therefore, the "taincte city" could be translated into the "City of lights".
See the theme of symbolism for the collection of quatrains that contain the word "taincte" in the Centuries. It is unusually frequent.

Taincte ne serait-il pas la négation de "ectaincte" ? Si c'était le cas, alors la cité taincte serait la cité allumée, ou des lumières.
